This watch is a modern recreation of the original ‘Alpinist,’ first launched in 1959 exclusively for the Japanese market which was designed for Japanese ‘Yama-otoko’ mountain men; to be reliable in treacherous terrain. This 2021 recreation includes a protective leather bracelet, a key feature of the prototype, designed for comfort and to protect the wearer from the effects of cold metal on the skin in high altitudes. The design remains inherently practical – powered by the comfortable slim 6L movement with highly visible lumibrite on the dial and hands, easy to see in any light. The Seiko SJE085J1 Prospex watch has 36.6mm stainless steel case housing a black dial, which is protected beneath sapphire crystal glass. This model also has a water resistance of up to 100 metres.
